IIEF-5 Questionnaire for Erectile Health.

What is the IIEF score?

Understanding the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire.

The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) is globally recognised as the "gold standard" for the clinical assessment of erectile dysfunction (ED). It is a validated, multi-dimensional scale used by specialists to evaluate a patient's sexual health over the previous four weeks. By providing a structured way to report symptoms, the IIEF allows our practitioners to move beyond general descriptions and gain a precise, objective understanding of your current baseline.

What the assessment measures

The questionnaire specifically focuses on five key domains of male sexual health: erectile function, orgasmic function, sexual desire, intercourse satisfaction, and overall satisfaction. Each response is scored numerically, providing a total that helps categorise the severity of ED—ranging from "no dysfunction" to "severe." This level of detail is crucial for clinical decision-making, as it helps identify whether the issues are primarily physical, such as blood flow restrictions, or linked to other health factors.

Tracking your progress with Shockwave Therapy

At the Shockwave Therapy Clinic, we use the IIEF not just as a diagnostic tool, but as a roadmap for your recovery. By completing the questionnaire before starting treatment and again at key intervals, we can accurately track the physiological improvements gained through Focused Shockwave Therapy. Seeing your score improve numerically provides a clear, measurable reflection of the restoration of blood flow and tissue health, ensuring your treatment plan is perfectly tailored to your individual progress.
